Frequently asked questions about Greek Life

 

What about hazing?

• Neither Gamma Lambda Psi nor Lake Superior State University condone hazing in any form. Gamma Lambda Psi has banned hazing. There are also Michigan Laws that protect students from being haze. If you have any concerns about hazing, you should speak with LSSU Campus Life Office. Hazing can be reported anonymously at 1-888-NOT-HAZE (1-888-668-4293).

 

What impact will Gamma Lambda Psi membership have on my son's grades?

• Your son's academic success is paramount to any other activity he is involved in while in college, and Gamma Lambda Psi primary purpose is to support his effort to graduate. College life can fun, so it takes personal discipline to ensure he can be successful in his social and academic endeavors. The balance between work and play he will learn through his involvement as a brother is a life skill he will carry through to his professional and family life.

 

Is Gamma like the fraternities shown in Animal House?

• Fraternities are values-based organizations dedicated to their founding values and the development of young men into successful alumni. Fraternities can also a lot of fun, which can be misleading.  If you take an organization that outwardly appears to be solely about having fun, with secret rituals and handshakes, and add the modern touch of shock entertainment, you get movies like Animal House and Van Wilder What most people don't see on TV or in the movies are the events we attend where there is a speakers on sexual assault prevention or our community service projects. We understand that our community service projects wouldn't make for good TV, but they are actually a large part of what do. In the meantime, we'll quietly continue to do what we do best: develop the leaders of tomorrow.
